I will do more than care – I will help.
I will do more than belong – I will participate
I will do more than believe – I will practice.
I will do more than be fair – I will be kind.
I will do more than dream – I will work.
I will do more than teach – I will inspire.
I will do more than earn – I will enrich.
I will do more than give – I will serve.
A little reminder to all members that St George’s Day is on Tuesday 23rd April, and as is traditional the group will be taking part in the service at Eskdale School on Sunday 21st April.
Please meet up near reception at 10:20am in full uniform (black shoes, navy or black trousers, Jumper/Shirt and necker) so we can be ready to march in at 10:30am. The service is expected to finish just before midday.
Eskmouth Scout Group will be taking part in this year’s Sandsend Beach cleans together with the Marine Conservation Society and other volunteers.
The first date is 13th April and the second date will be 21st September.
Both events begin at 10:30am with volunteers meeting up at the slipway near the Sandside Café in Sandsend. Depending on weather conditions, tides and the state of the beach the clean can take up to 2 hours but usually takes less.
Previous years we’ve taken a pack lunch and enjoyed a few games on the beach afterwards.
I’ve transferred the photo gallery to Google+, main reason was that Photobucket had changed how albums were displayed and it was no longer intuitive for members to find them. I had debated about posting them on Facebook but none Facebook users would have struggled to access them.
The change has also coincided with me going through the old photo albums we had in storage, you’ll see some of them starting to appear on our Google+ page as time goes on, I’ve also added more photos to the existing albums.
If you have photos of Eskmouth Scout Group or know more information about any of the older pictures please let me know.
We are looking for additional parent representatives to sit on the executive committee (made up of leaders and support staff). This is a good opportunity to find out more about how a Scout group runs, where the money goes and to have a say in what happens in the future. If interested let one of the leaders know.
We will also be starting up a fund raising committee to come up with ideas for fund raising and to help organise events. If you think you know of interesting ideas to raise funds for the group or have some time spare and are willing to help organise fund raising events then please let us know.
The group is looking for a Group Scout Leader (GSL) and will soon be needing a new Chair Person, both positions will need to go through a formal process and be appointed by our District Commissioner, Alan Holmes, but if you are interested in either role please let him know. For job roles please see the Scout Association website (GSL: FS330063, Chair Person: FS330030)
The snow may have put some of the Cubs off coming but those that made it had a fantastic time.
The Cubs were broken into three teams and each team had to make two dishes from a particular country.
The dishes were:
Spanish Quick Gazpacho
Spanish Chorizo, Potato & Cheese Omelet
Indian Sag Aloo
Indian Spiced Chicken Balti
Italian Tuna Balls
Italian Turkey Toasties
Despite a few teething problems all teams managed really well and we had some excellent dishes to try at the end. Most of the Cubs tried a bit of them all and the Gazpacho became the food of the brave (or foolish) as it proved far hotter than any of us imagined.
